Atmospheric Surface Science

Studying the ice nucleation (IN) mechanism, particularly heterogeneous IN, is very important for understanding the criteria of formation of different types of clouds, which in turn has its influence on climate change. Despite all investigations on particle size and surface properties of IN agents upon nucleation efficiency, no clear statement is given about IN process. Technical and environmental issues require a good understanding of ice freezing on the surfaces of IN agents, particularly on the molecular level.

A new research group started at IMK-AAF to investigate atmospheric interactions and water/IN agent surface interactions on the molecular level. For more details please visit the official webpage.
